Chicken Sh*t Bingo: The Strangest, Most Texas Afternoon You’ll Spend in Llano

You’ve heard of bingo halls. You’ve heard of honky-tonks. But have you heard of the game where a live chicken decides the winner by doing what chickens do?

Welcome to Chicken Sh*t Bingo — a Llano institution, and hands-down the most Texas thing you can do on a Sunday afternoon.

How It Works

  • A grid is marked out on the floor, each square numbered and sold for a few bucks
  • Players claim their squares and grab a cold Lone Star
  • A chicken is released onto the grid
  • Wherever the chicken… does its business… that’s the winning square
  • Winner takes the pot

That’s it. No skill. No strategy. Just you, a chicken, and a whole room of strangers cheering for bird poop like it’s the Super Bowl.

The host lineup changes from month to month — country music legend Dale Watson is a regular, and other Texas artists take their turn behind the mic. Whoever’s playing, you get live music all afternoon, usually four rounds of bingo, and a $100 prize per round.

Where and When

📍 Sundown Llano — 909 Bessemer Ave, Llano (corner of Hwy 16 & Hwy 29)

Sundays, roughly once a month, 2:00–6:00 PM. Check their live music calendar for exact dates.

  • No cover — the show is free
  • Live music from 2–6pm, bingo all afternoon
  • Great food available (Sundown is known for its barbecue)
  • Get there early for a seat, or just plan to dance the whole time

The Vibe

Sundown is a proper Hill Country honky-tonk — the kind of place where the beer is cold, the music is loud, and nobody’s checking their phone. It’s 17 minutes from Uplift Landing, which means you can spend the day floating the Llano River and cap it off with chicken bingo and live country music. That’s a Sunday worth writing home about.

Plan Your Weekend

Make a weekend of it: book a campsite at Uplift Landing, spend Saturday on the river, and head into town Sunday for chicken bingo. Bring cash for your squares, a chair if you want to sit, and an open mind — because watching a chicken pick a bingo winner is an experience you’ll be telling stories about for years.

See you at Sundown. 🍗
